Nyngan War Memorial Swimming pool is heating up in a good way this summer as a new amenities block is being built and due to be opened early in 2024.

For the last 71 years the facility has only had a cold shower option for pool goers, though with the new amenities this will be a thing of the past and especially welcome to early morning swimmers.

The block will include accessible unisex change rooms which each have a hot shower, accessible toilet and change areas.

Over the last several years Bogan Shire has added many improvements to the pool, with water features, a new paint job and shade improvements.

Bogan Shire Mayor Glen Neill is happy with the new improvements taking place.

“We are pleased the new amenities block is nearing completion and know what an asset they will be to our local pool facilities. They will definitely be a much-needed addition for all the swimmers who visit the pool from the community and travellers passing by,” he said.

Nyngan War Memorial pool was the first Olympic standard pool ever built in the far west, as a living memorial to the districts war dead with the official opening being performed by Major-General W.J.V. Windeyer in 1952.

The opening ceremony was highlighted by an aquatic display from noted Sydney swimmers and divers with local swimmers also jumping in to compete against the visitors in a competitive race.

The Nyngan Pool attracted 3068 swimmers in November of this year, an increase of 900 visitors from the same time last year.
