The charitable organisation Macquarie Home Stay (MHS) has welcomed an election promise from the Nationals of $2 million to help fund family style accommodation at the centre.

Leader of the National party David Littleproud, Nationals candidate for Parkes Jamie Chaffey, MHS board chair Andrew Single, Deputy chair Susan Madden, MHS manager Rod Crowfoot were on site on Friday 28 February for the announcement.

MHS is a place where many families from the Western Plains go to stay when they attend medical appointments or have a loved one in the Dubbo Hospital for a longer period of time while keeping the budget low.

In the 2022/23, 27 percent of the residents at the MHS came from Walgett, 12 percent from the Warrumbungle Shire, 11 percent from the Bourke Shire.

Guests also came from Bogan, Coonamble, Warren, Brewarrina, and Gilgandra Shire.

MHS recently added another 26 family and single rooms to accommodate for the growing demand after the opening of the Western Cancer Centre, bringing the total number of units to 63.

MHS is now looking to offer larger families a place where they can stay together.

"It would be particularly helpful for many of our maternity families who are coming in pre-delivery," Rod Crowfoot, MHS Manager said.

"We have many mums, dads, siblings, and children come to stay with us as a family before they go into the hospital to deliver."

The family units will be east of the already existing housing from MHS near the Dubbo Hospital.

A playground is also available for children to enjoy.

If the promise comes to fruition, it will be the first time MHS receives federal funding.

MHS is largely funded by the state government and donations from clubs and organisations.

This year Coonamble local Donna Ditchfield also raised over $70,000 for MHS through livestock sales and donations on the GiveNow website.

"It's a great step that the federal government sees value in what we're doing and the National are prepared to make a strong statement of support," Mr Crowfoot said.Â
