Federal Nationals leader Littleproud has confirmed his party will not renew a coalition partnership with the Liberal Party.
Â
Mr Littleproud said the Regional Australia Future Fund, services in the bush, nuclear power and supermarket divestiture powers were sticking points in the decision to split.
Â
"This morning, after the discussions that both Sussan Ley and I have had over the ensuing period, our party room has got to a position where we will not be re-entering a coalition agreement," he told media.
Â
"At this juncture, we're making a principled position about not what we're prepared to give up on, but to build on what we achieved and to move forward."
The Liberals and Nationals have been in coalition for many decades, although the agreement is always re-negotiated after each election.
Mr Littleproud said he has left the door open to re-enter a coalition in the future.
Â
The Western Plains App has contacted Nationals member for Parkes Jamie Chaffey for comment.
Â
The decision comes after a landslide win for Labor at the federal election on 3 May, which saw the Liberals bleed seats in Australian cities.
