New case in Walgett wasn't infectious in the communityA new case of COVID-19 has been identified in the Walgett shire, although the WNSWLHD says they weren't infectious in the community.

The Western Plains has only recorded one new case of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, with all newly identified cases in the local health district believed to not have been infectious in the community at this stage.

Up to 8pm last night, a total of seven new cases were identified in the Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD), including one in Walgett.

The remaining cases were identified in Wellington (two), Cowra (three) and Orange (one). This brings the total number of cases in the district to 1609.

According to the WNSWLHD, four of the new cases have been identified as household contacts while the three others were otherwise linked to previous cases.

At this stage, there have been no new reports of potential community transmission and there have been no new virus fragments detected in sewage samples taken from areas without known or recent cases of COVID-19.

A further 22 patients were discharged from the WNSWLHD's COVID Care in the Community program, with a total of 76 still receiving care. There are currently no COVID patients hospitalised in the district.

There were a total of 2102 COVID-19 tests administered across the district. Anyone exhibiting signs and symptoms for the virus is encouraged to find their nearest COVID-19 testing facility, which can be found on the NSW Health website.

Surveillance testing is also available for people without symptoms and haven't been in contact with any close contacts or symptomatic people.

Information on where and how to receive vaccinations in the west is available on the WNSWLHD website.
