The new Collarenebri Police Station has been officially opened during the Minister for Police and Emergency Services’ visit to the state’s north.

The sustainable new facility was unveiled by Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott on Tuesday 18 May as part of the $15.9 million Regional Small Police Station Program.

Onsite development of the double-module building began in 2019, with the station due to become fully operational in October 2021.

The new building incorporates custody facilities and has preserved the history of the site by incorporating the base of the brick chimney and an outline of the eastern perimeter wall of the former police station.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott said the modern facility will support police and the local community.

“The NSW Government continues to deliver on its election commitment to invest in a police station infrastructure program to support the vital work of our policemen and women,” Mr Elliott said.

“The modular facility provides the resources and modern amenities for police to operate effectively in Collarenebri and its surrounds and will be equipped to support the growing number of police in the region."

Western Region Commander Assistant Commissioner Geoff McKechnie, said the new station is an investment into regional policing.

“This new facility gives police the support they need to respond effectively to emerging crime issues and other emergency situations,” Assistant Commissioner McKechnie said.

“The facility also provides extra space to allow specialist and visiting police the resources they need to further support this community.”

Officer in Charge of Collarenebri Police Station Inspector Kevin Day said the new facility will have the capacity to accommodate local operational police and host visiting police travelling through the area.

“The offsite fabrication of the station meant that we saw minimal disruption to local police operations during the building phase,” Inspector Day said.

“The new facility is equipped with a public front counter, duty rooms, an interview room as well as a secure custody area.

“The facility will service the needs of the community, while ensuring our officers are provided a modern and safe workplace to support them as they help keep the community safe.”
