New police recruits head westOrana Mid-Western Police District Commander, Superintendent Timothy Chinn, welcomes four new recruits to the western area, including one who will be based at Gilgandra.

Orana Mid-Western Police District has welcomed four new probationary constables to its ranks following the attestation of 179 recruits at the Police Academy in Goulburn just ahead of Christmas.

The four officers undertook eight months of training in the Constable Education Program (CEP), four months at the Academy at Goulbourn and four months by distance education. They will now have 12 months on the job training as a Probationary Constable.

The full cohort of 179 have been spread around the state as they commence duties, with the majority in the metropolitan area; Central Metropolitan (53), Northwest Metropolitan (39) Southwest Metropolitan (33), Northern Region (24), Southern Region (17) and Western Region (13).

NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb said the officers have embarked on a career that is unique and like no other.

“This is not just a job; it’s a calling. A calling to serve and protect, to uphold the values of justice and to make a positive impact on all of our communities,” she said. “To the newest members of our organisation, I wish you all the best in your future endeavours with the New South Wales Police Force.”

Orana Mid-Western Police District Commander, Superintendent Timothy Chinn, welcomed the new recruits to the region as they commence their policing careers.

“We are very fortunate to have four new recruits starting across our Police District this week,” Supt Chinn said.

“Three new recruits will join Dubbo Police Station, while one will commence duties at Gilgandra. I looking forward to seeing them out and about on the beat."

NSW Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley also welcomed the new recruits.

"I wish every one of the 179 Attesting Officers a long, rich and rewarding career in the NSW Police Force – the best Police Force in the world,” Ms Catley said. “Each of these officers have displayed an unwavering commitment to make a difference to the people of NSW. Our state and the policing family is all the richer for it.”

The officers come on board in what is traditionally one of the busiest times on the policing calendar with crime, particularly domestic violence and theft increasing during this period.

Orana Police District remind members of the public that thieves are opportunistic.

"Remember to take precautions to help keep your belongings safe. Lock your windows and doors, and keep your valuables out of sight," they advise.
