Nollsie brings new crowd to the dog trackShannon showed special consideration to his smaller fans on Friday night.

With free tickets to one of Australia's most well-known performers on offer, the Coonamble Greyhound Club had the opportunity to draw a new crowd to their annual Gold Cup Carnival.

The three day event attracted people Australia wide, and early estimates from organisers say there were around 850 people through the gates over the course of the long weekend.

Around 500 people attended the carnival on Friday 29 September, 200 on Saturday 30 September, and around 150 on Monday 2 October.

The hour-long set by Australian rock icon Shannon Noll after the final race was run on Friday evening saw him playing hits like 'Drive' and 'What About Me' to an enthusiastic crowd.

He also snuck in some covers of the Screaming Jets' 'Better' and a more rock and roll cover of Banjo Patterson's 'Waltzing Matilda'.

Coonamble Greyhound Association President says having a draw card like Noll boosted their attendance numbers.

"It was another great weekend, compared to the last carnival the crowd numbers were up, and Nollsy really helped with that," said Mr Pickering.

"We had people come to the track who we've never seen before."

"It was good because they got into the racing side of it before Nollsy came on."

An influx of caravans in town were due to trainers and greyhound racing enthusiasts travelling from far and wide to Coonamble as well.

"We had people come from all over," said Mr Pickering.

"Townsville, Bendigo, and some others from Queensland and Victoria. They're great supporters of ours and come every year."

"We had some come over from the coast as well, many of them came here for the carnival and only just left on Tuesday morning."

"They get around and support the pubs and clubs, and all the local businesses, it's great for the town."

Graham Pickering gave his thanks to the locals who made the day possible.

"Rodney Vallett at the Cellars did an excellent job as always on the bar," said Mr Pickering. "Thanks to Paul Wheelhouse and Woodings Hire for the other bars as well."

"Quota did an amazing job on the barbeque too."

"Damien Lee and Adam Cohen had three young guys working up in the kennels, they did a great job."

"These sorts of events don't happen without those people, we couldn’t handle it without them."
