Nyngan 3CN church gets $216k grantMembers of the 3CN Church in Nyngan and community organisations are presented with a cheque for $216,000 from NSW Minister Sam Farraway.

NYNGAN’s 3CN Church is one of the recent recipients of a NSW Government grant with $216,000 awarded to upgrade its building in Terangion Street, Nyngan.

The Christian Community Centre Nyngan, known as 3CN, applied for the funding through the Stronger Country Communities Fund and will use it to upgrade its auditorium and hall in the former Masonic Lodge building to enable it to host more community events such as the fortnightly Foodbank service.

The church relocated from a main street premises to the new site in May 2018 and Linda Young from 3CN says the aim of the grant application had been to make improvements to the building so it was more accessible for whole-of-community use.

“We plan to put reverse cycle air conditioning in the hall to allow it to be used all year round,” Mrs Young said.

“A key priority was to make the space better suited for our fortnightly Foodbank service where we set up and distribute groceries and essential items to community members on lower incomes.”

“We will build a room to home the Foodbank pantry which will enable us to expand the range of items we can offer.”

The church is also planning to install new floor coverings in the hall and the auditorium and upgrade the toilets to include disability access.

“Currently the carpet in the auditorium is held together with duct tape so it will be exciting to renew it. Apart from our services, the auditorium is used as a community space. We have been showing movies there each week in the school holidays and each month during the school term for anyone in the community to enjoy.”

Mrs Young said there was also plans to upgrade the storage facilities for tables, chairs and catering equipment, as well as some minor kitchen repairs.

“If we have money leftover we’d like to put a ramp in to the foyer for outside disability access,” she said.

“When we were putting together the grant application we received feedback from community organisations such as the Red Cross Community Hub as to what would make our venue more versatile.”
