Paper creations on display at Cobar this weekendCobar Arts Council are holding a Paper Creations Exhibition this weekend

Seven workshops held over several months have focused on paper skills and culminated in the current Paper Creations Exhibition at the Cobar Railway Station.

It opened on Thursday, 10th August - the event also runs today with the last day tomorrow, 10am to 1pm.

Secretary of the Cobar Arts Council (CAC), Sue Singleton said the event was a showcase of participants from the workshops which were funded under a CASP grant through Outback Arts.

"(We are exhibiting) works of particular participants in the paper-making, map-making and book-binding workshops which have been held over the last few months," she said.

Cobar High School are providing musical entertainment as a backdrop to the impressive display.

"The tutors for the workshops were great, and they were all locals," Ms Singleton said. "We have Daphne Jermyn for paper- making, Kylie Harvey for map-making and Natalia Papierniak instructing the book-binding."

All tutors shared their expertise with Ms Papiernak explaining the history of book binding in Cobar - a service once offered by the Cobar Herald newspaper.

Ms Singleton said the Cobar Arts Council consists of small group of volunteers.

"Its primary focus is to support and provide opportunities in the arts and culture in the community and local area," she said.

The CAC hold the Annual Art and Photography exhibition as their major event, scheduled during the Festival of the Miner's Ghost in October.

"It will be held the weekend before this year," Ms Singleton said. "It is sponsored by Aurelia/ Peak Gold Mine with prize money of $2000."

Recently a pottery exhibition was also held showing work from local potter, Ms Singleton and emerging artist, Anita Neale.

With so much talent in the local area, why not head to Cobar tomorrow to check it out?

Bookbinding was also popular among Cobar artists and can be seen at this weekend's exhibition.
