Senior police from the Central North Police District are seeking aid from the community in locating two men believed to be able to assist in their inquiries into the assault and aggravated robbery of an elderly man in the Bourke shire last year.
At about 1.20pm on Friday 3 January 2020, officers attached to Central North Police District were called to a remote property in Byrock, about 110km south of Bourke, following reports of an aggravated robbery.
The occupant, a 75-year-old man, was found to be injured after allegedly being tied to a chair and assaulted by three men, who stole a number of items before fleeing the location.
He suffered serious injuries and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Bourke Hospital for treatment. He has since recovered.
Local detectives have since established Strike Force Kinilibah to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and have been assisted throughout the investigation by detectives attached to State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad.
Robbery and Serious Crime Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Andrew Koutsoufis spoke to media earlier today (Thursday 21 October) about the incident and resulting investigations.
"I would describe the attack as a vicious, cowardly attack against an elderly man - this is a serious offence that will not be tolerated no matter where it happens in NSW," Det. Supt. Koutsoufis said.
"We believe the three involved knew the location, knew the occupant and it was definitely a targeted incident - it wasn't random."
So far during the investigation, a 27-year-old man has been charged over his alleged involvement in the incident and remains before the courts.
As part of ongoing inquiries, police have also today released computer-generated (COMFIT) images of two men they believe may be able to assist with inquiries.
Both are described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance. The COMFIT images of the two based on descriptions can be seen below.

Det Supt Koutsoufis urged people to look closely at the vehicle, as well as the COMFIT images of the two men.

“We have reason to believe these men were not from the Bourke area and travelled to the location from Greater Sydney using the vehicle depicted in the image,” Det Supt Koutsoufis said.
“As such, investigators are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time – as well as residents of Greater Sydney – to come forward if they recognise this car or its occupants.”
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers via 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
