Positive COVID-19 case revealed to have travelled through rural NSW while potentially infectious (developing)NSW Health and Queensland Health have announced that a recently confirmed COVID-19 case stopped in several regional NSW towns while travelling to the Sunshine Coast.

A confirmed positive case of COVID-19 has been revealed to have stopped in several towns throughout regional NSW while potentially infectious with the virus.

The announcement came after NSW Health was informed by Queensland Health that a woman who drove from Melbourne to the Sunshine Coast - and signed into several venues in regional NSW between her departure on Tuesday 1 June and crossing the Queensland border on Saturday 5 June - had tested positive for COVID-19.

According to NSW Health, the woman stopped at places in Gillenbah, Forbes, Dubbo and Moree during her travels and signed into several venues using QR codes.

Anyone who attended the following venues at the associated times listed has been told to immediately get tested and isolate until they receive further information from NSW Health:

  • Gillenbah, Caltex Narrandera, 1 Newell Highway: Tuesday 1 June, 10.30 am to 11.00am

  • Forbes, Vandenberg Hotel, 7 Court Street: Tuesday 1 June, 6.00pm to 10.00pm

  • Moree, Amaroo Tavern, Amaroo Drive: Friday 4 June, 4.30pm to 11.00pm

It has since been revealed that the woman travelled through the state with a partner - who has since also tested positive - and left Melbourne during its recent lockdown period without an exemption for a new job.

NSW Health have said workers will continue to investigate the movements of this case in regional New South Wales, and NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said he wouldn't be surprised if this list of venues was updated in the coming days.

"The message broadly to our regional communities is be on high alert, this is a real and present danger to us, having people who are positive, travelling through our state stopping at multiple venues puts our state at risk," he said.

"If they've simply thumbed their nose at the law, and the public health orders that are put in place to keep us all safe, then obviously what has to be considered … by the Queensland authorities, is whether or not they will take action against them."

Anyone who lives in or has visited the above areas since 1 June, is asked to be especially vigilant for the onset of even the mildest of cold-like symptoms, and is urged to come forward for testing immediately if they appear, then isolate until a negative result is received.

There are more than 300 COVID-19 testing locations across NSW, many of which are open seven days a week. To find your nearest testing clinic, visit the NSW Health website or contact your GP.
