Regional restrictions extended to end of July along with Greater Sydney lockdownPremier Gladys Berejiklian has announced a further extension of the Greater Sydney lockdown and all current regional NSW restrictions to last until at least 30 July.

Increasing local cases of COVID-19 in the Greater Sydney area has resulted in the state government extending the city-wide lockdown - and all restrictions affecting regional NSW - by an additional two weeks.

In a press conference this morning (14 July), Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced that NSW Health had recorded an additional 97 new local COVID-19 cases, 24 of them confirmed to have been in the community while infectious.

This was after more than 65,000 tests carried out in the last 24 hours.

Ms Berejiklian said this would mean the current lockdown - due to come to an end on Friday 16 July after already being extended last week for similar reasons - would be extended for at least another two weeks until 11:59pm on Friday, 30 July.

"We are constantly reviewing the health advice and will continue to update the community if any changes are required.

"This means the restrictions currently in place across Greater Sydney including the Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Shellharbour will remain in place until this time.

"In these areas, online learning for students will also continue for an additional two weeks.

"We understand this is a difficult time for the community and appreciate their ongoing patience. It is vital people continue to come forward for testing to help us find any COVID-19 cases in the community."

Ms Berejiklian said restrictions in regional NSW would remain unchanged following the recent health advice.

This means residents across the Western Plains will need to continue to follow current restrictions, including mandatory mask-wearing while indoors, checking in to all venues using a QR code or other means and limiting visitor numbers in homes to five people.

Regional schools will continue face-to-face learning over the next two weeks, though students and staff are required to wear masks while inside.
