Remember to remember tomorrowTomorrow at 11am, Australians will be reminded to remember fallen service men and women for their sacrifices in conflict.

Australians are being reminded to take a moment to reflect and remember fallen service men and women this Thursday 11 November at 11am.

RSL NSW President Ray James said Remembrance Day is an important day in history to commemorate the signing of the Armistice agreement between German and Allied forces in 1918 – signalling an end to World War 1.

“Through the simple act of pausing for a minute’s silence at 11am, we can all come together to reflect and remember those who have given their lives in service to their country, those who have come home injured or ill, and those who bravely serve the country today,” Mr James said.

“Millions of Australians have personal connections to our nation’s significant military history, either as a current or former serving defence member or as the relative of someone who served.

“Whether you’re in your office or working from home, attending an RSL sub-branch commemoration or live streaming a service, please take a minute at 11am to pause, reflect and remember."

There will be a variety of Remembrance Day Services held across the Western Plains by the various RSL sub-branches to commemorate the day.

Among these, there will be a service at the local Coonamble cenotaph, regardless of weather, meeting at 10.55am.

The Brewarrina RSL sub-branch will hold a service at either the local RSL club or information centre, depending on the weather.

The Nyngan RSL sub-branch will be holding a low-key service at the cenotaph by the council chambers, beginning at 10.40am.

There will be a service in Memorial Park in Walgett, starting promptly at 11am, which will be shifted to the local RSL Memorial Hall if it rains. Lightning Ridge will also have a service at the Visitor Information Centre from 10.50am.

The Condobolin RSL club will also be holding a service, with people encouraged to gather at 10.30am followed by refreshments. The RSL Life Care aged care facility will also hold a service from 11am with refreshments afterwards.

As for Narromine, the main service will be held at the local cenotaph, commencing at 10.50am to line up with the 11am two minutes of silence. The local schools are expected to attend unless it rains.

Australians are also encouraged to donate to the annual RSL Poppy Appeal to support veterans and their families by purchasing a poppy from local RSL sub-Branch volunteers or planting a poppy in the virtual Remembrance Day Garden.
