Coonamble Shire Council's General Manager Hein Basson has advised the travelling public that all unsealed roads within the Coonamble shire will be closed to all traffic following recent rain.
Mr Basson said he wished to remind road users that travelling on wet roads is extremely dangerous and they may be liable for any damage that they cause to the road that is closed.
"Road conditions can change without warning and drivers should always drive with caution - unsealed roads damage very easily when they are wet and only essential journeys should be undertaken until these roads dry out," Mr Basson said.
According to Mr Basson, repairs to damaged roads are not usually possible until the roads and gravel stockpiles begin to dry out and that higher trafficked roads would likely prioritised first when this happens.
In a recent update from Coonamble Council, these unsealed roads will remain closed over the June long weekend. Emergency vehicles are exempt from this directive if they are responding to legitimate emergencies.
Mr Basson said that during flood events council staff will periodically review road conditions and issue updated bulletins if they change.
