Rocking out at the Coonamble street party Max Jackson was the final home-grown act at the Coonamble shire's Street Party

It was an all Coonamble affair at this year's Christmas Street Party on Saturday 2 December, in an event made for locals by locals.

For a main street with many empty shop fronts, it was a change of scenery to have a bustling town centre filled with stalls, food, people, and music.

Council staff say early estimates are that anywhere from 1000 to 1500 people came into the cordoned off section of Castlereagh Street over the course of the event from 5pm through to 9pm.

Thirty eight stall holders set up for the afternoon, selling wares ranging from candles, live birds, homemade jams, to dog collars.

However, the main feature of the event was the stage set up on the southern side of the main street that played host to a range of locally-bred talent.

First up, local band Castlereagh Connection playing their hits and a few classics woven in between.

Then it was two country music stars who both started their journeys in Coonamble.

Kylie Gale returned on Saturday to play hits like 'Push Back' and 'Upside Down' for the crowd.

To much anticipation in the week leading up the headline act was the award-winning singer songwriter Max Jackson, who got the young fans up and dancing.

Earlier in the week in fact, the Coonamble Public School had changed their tune by switching the school bell to play songs by Max Jackson (aka former CPS student Makaylie Foodey).

Many enjoyed watching Max play her hits including 'Someone in a Small Town' which featured Coonamble characters and locations in the music video.

She closed with her most popular song, currently sitting at number 6 on the CountryTown Hot 50 songs, 'Little More Country'.

Max also threw in some other country and rock classics, including a bit of Shania Twain and Johnny Cash.

Coonamble Shire Mayor Tim Horan says the Coonamble Christmas Street Party was great to have such a local-centric party.

“This event brings the people of Coonamble Shire together to celebrate and do their Christmas shopping," he said. "This year was extra special with the concert featuring a line-up of successful musicians with ties to Coonamble."

"The support of local businesses and stall holders contributed to a festive atmosphere too."

The event was part-funded by the Department of Regional NSW, and planning is already underway for the next year.
