Running for CharlotteSchoolmates, friends and family will be running for Charlotte Vincent tomorrow to raise funds for leukaemia research.

RUNNERS across Australia and even overseas will be dinning "Team Chachi" t-shirts this Sunday and Running for Charlotte to support Narromine year 12 student Charlotte Vincent and raise money for The Leukemia Foundation.

Until she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) at the beginning of this year Charlotte was a boarder at Abbotsleigh School in Sydney and about to commence year 12.

Family friend and "Team Chachi" joint-organiser Christine Weston said Charlotte had been looking forward to her final HSC year including all it entailed but sadly had to pull out of school to focus on treatment.

Mrs Weston said Charlotte's boarding friends had organised a “Running for Charlotte” team to participate in the 20th Anniversary of the Blackmore Sydney Running Festival on Sunday 17 September and 333 of her friends, family, teachers (including the Headmistress) and students had registered to walk or run the 3.5km or 10km distance over the harbour bridge and finishing at the Opera house.

In addition, satellite runs will be taking place on the day with those taking part encouraged to photograph themselves in the special "Team Chachi – Breaking up with Luke(aemia) step by step" t-shirts.

Mrs Weston said 300 t-shirts had been printed and despatched as far as England, Spain, Broome, Cloncurry, Hay, Walcha, Parkes, Tottenham, Collie pub and Narromine.

"A private Facebook page has been set up for rural, remote and overseas family and friends to share their pictures and support for Charlotte. Tottenham is hosting a run, walk or ride event!," she said.

The Abbotsleigh Year 12 girls started a fundraising page for the Leukemia Foundation, and have so far received $21,130 in donations.

Charlotte is an accomplished equestrienne but has missed many events due to treatment.

Runners and those wishing to support this cause can donate at https://bsrf22.grassrootz.com/leukaemia/running-for-charlotte and help support people living with blood cancer, including their families and carers accessing supportive care, including accommodation, transport, emotional and practical support, health and wellbeing, grief support and peer support groups.

"This support is critical to our rural and regional communities," Mrs Weston said.

“Charlotte has received countless blood transfusions, especially platelets, which has been lifesaving.”

“Team Chachi” has been registered with the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood to encourage blood/plasma/platelets donations to help more people with leukemia and cancer.

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is the most common type of childhood cancers.

For children diagnosed with acute leukemia, those who remain free from the disease after five years are generally considered “cured” because it is rare for acute leukemia to recur after this amount of time.

"Charlotte will continue Chemotherapy treatment until January in Sydney and we pray for her speedy recovery."
