The Dr Steve Burroughs Foundation brought joy to the faces of many children over Christmas when toys were distributed to Aboriginal communities in Western and Central West NSW and central Queensland.
“In November, a heart warming opportunity presented itself, with one of the Foundation's longtime sponsors in Sydney offering an extraordinary donation,” said founder Dr Steve Burroughs.
“An estimated $250,000 worth of Christmas toys, which amounted to an astonishing 20 pallets were generously provided to us to distribute.
“However, the offer came with a logistical challenge — a $7,500 transport and handling fee to move the toys to Canberra for sorting and distribution.

“Through sheer determination and the generous support of donors, the Foundation successfully raised the required funds, and the toys arrived at the National Mailing and Marketing centre in Canberra, where a dedicated group of volunteers gathered to sort through the 20 pallets.
“In just two hours, the toys were categorised and organised - though the task of creating an inventory and spreadsheets took nearly a month to complete.

“Thanks to the Foundation’s strong relationship with TOLL, six pallets of the toys were transported to Barcaldine in Central Queensland.
“From there, the local mob took charge of distributing their allocation to 16 other communities.
“In New South Wales, distribution points were set up in Parkes, Peak Hill, Dubbo, Lightning Ridge, Gilgandra, Tabulam, and Narooma. Each of these hubs coordinated further distributions to surrounding Aboriginal communities.
“In total, the Foundation’s efforts reached 43 communities and locations, spreading joy and hope to thousands of Aboriginal children and families. Messages of gratitude and goodwill poured in from recipients, each one a testament to the profound impact of the initiative,” said Dr Burroughs.
“One act of kindness is all it takes to make someone’s day. Thank you for extending yours to our mob out this way,” a spokesman from Central West Aboriginal Corporation offered.
“Words can’t come to mind saying how appreciative we are for your donation, kindness and support. We wish to sincerely thank you for your generous gifts.
"Our community was overwhelmed, and it was a perfect gift for families before Christmas,” they said.

The foundation itself operates without government grants and support, relying solely on the generosity of donors to fund its inspiring work.
"As the year concluded, we find ourselves filled with joy and love from our Christmas Toy Drive," Dr Burroughs said.
"Together with Hasbro, Good360, Toll Government and Defence, National Mailing and marketing and countless volunteers, $250,000 worth of toys were distributed to over 40 Aboriginal Communities. Seeing the joy and excitement these gifts bring to children is a reminder of the spirit of giving," he added.
Founded by Dr Burroughs in 2017, the foundation was established to connect corporate partners with Australia’s First Peoples, promoting sustainable development and empowering indigenous communities.
The foundation works to make a tangible difference across remote and regional indigenous communities with projects that aid families and individuals for a better life.
Dr Burroughs lifelong commitment to indigenous advancement in housing, health, and self-sufficiency is the driving force behind the foundation.
