Across the Western NSW Local Health District there have been 25 new cases of COVID-19 reported to 8pm last night but authorities say this is not necessarily a good sign.
"This is NOT an indication that things are heading in the right direction," said Dubbo MP Dugald Saunders in today's covid update.
"There are at least that many cases expected in the next 24 hours, and in fact there is more concern about what is to come in some parts of the district."
In the Western Plains area three new cases have been detected in Narromine, 2 in Bourke, 1 in Nyngan and 1 in Brewarrina up to 8pm last night. The rest (18) were in Dubbo.
The number of venues of concern have increased and people in those areas should check the list and get tested as soon as possible.
People in the affected areas throughout Western NSW need to be extremely vigilant and get tested at the first sign of symptoms. Testing numbers were again low across the region yesterday, falling from 4500 on Friday to 3400 on Saturday 28 August.
NSW Health's ongoing sewage surveillance program has recently detected fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 at the sewage treatment plants in Trangie and Baradine. These detections are a concern as there are no known cases in these areas.
The sewage treatment plant at Trangie serves about 1,200 people and along with earlier places where the virus has been detected but there are no known cases, police have warned that they will be enforcing the stay at home orders unless you have an 'essential reason' to be out, including testing or vaccination.
Out of the 25 new cases 9 are known to be infectious in the community; 10 are linked to known cases; 6 are household contacts; 4 are linked to a known case or cluster; and 15 are still being investigated
This brings the total number of cases in the WNSWLHD to 510, including 401 in Dubbo.
Testing is available in every community and vaccinations continue to be available at GP clinics, some pharmacies and at pop-up clinics around the region.
Pop-up vaccination clinics will be operating in Trangie and Brewarrina today. Gulargambone, Grawin and Nyngan clinics start tomorrrow.
Assistance Commissioner Brett Greentree said there were 118 infringements issued overnight with about 40 in the Orana Police District.
"Forty is still too many," Mr Greentree said. "Our focus will be on areas where sewage and other indicators are present."
"The Stay at Home message is at the forefront of every police officer's mind and we are doing what we can to restrict movement," he said.
A 45 year old man was arrested in Bourke last night for failing to comply with the orders. His arrest followed two prior infringement notices and one court attendance notice.
Mr Greentree also said a carload of young people were stopped in Dunedoo yesterday and each of the four passengers received a $5000 fine. "Their excuse was that they were bored," Mr Greentree said.
"Please stay at home, comply with the orders and save your money."
"We are still receiving a lot of calls to Crime Stoppers from people reporting those who are not doing the right thing," he said.
"Police will continue to follow up on every report."
