Two men in their 50s were taken to hospital after a truck rollover around 15 kilometres from Coonamble yesterday.

Emergency services were alerted between 11am and 12 noon to the scene on Back Gular Road about three kilometres north from the turnoff on Warren Road.

It is understood the vehicle was travelling in a northerly direction towards Coonamble when the driver lost control of the truck, which careered east off the dirt road towards the Castlereagh River and hit a tree.

"Police have been told the vehicle rolled after running over a damaged section of the unsealed road," a police spokesperson said.

One of the men suffered an inquiry to his arm while NSW Ambulance reported only minor scrapes for the other man.

Police and paramedics in two ambulances attended to the driver and passenger, who were both employees of Coonamble Shire Council.

Coonamble Shire Council workers were also on site, as well as members of the Rural Fire Service (RFS) who attended in two trucks to monitor for potential fire danger. No fires were reported.

The men were taken to Coonamble Multipurpose Health Service and the truck was towed away.

A passerby told the Western Plains App that it was fortunate the vehicle did not end up in the river.

"The truck hit a huge rivergum, but if it didn't they'd have gone into the river," he said.
