Two arrested after foot and vehicle pursuits in Bourke

Two people have been charged in Bourke following a break and enter where a ute was allegedly stolen. 


About 6am yesterday (Thursday 12 January) an aggravated break and enter at a home on Bourke’s Mertin Street saw a white Mahindra ute allegedly stolen.


Police were told four people had allegedly broken into the house and stolen a set of car keys.


Shortly after, the vehicle was sighted by police. When attempts to stop the vehicle failed, a pursuit was initiated. 


The pursuit was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns. 


Following inquiries, about 8.30am the same day, the alleged stolen vehicle was located alight on Brewarrina Road, Bourke and was later extinguished by the Rural Fire Service. 


An 18-year-old was arrested about 3pm following a short foot pursuit on Oxley Street, Bourke. 


The man was charged with nine different offences, including aggravated break and enter, steal motor vehicle, assault police officer in execution of duty cause aggravated bodily harm and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic). 


He was refused bail (with one of his offences being breach of bail) and appeared at Bourke Local Court today. 


At about 9:30 that day, police executed a search warrant on Yanda Street, where a 14-year-old boy was arrested. 


The boy was taken to Bourke Police Station and charged with six different offences including entering a building with intent to commit an indictable offence, face blackened/disguised with intent to commit indictable offence, and steal motor vehicle. 


He was refused bail and appeared before the Bourke Children's Court today. 


Police investigations are continuing.
