Two men arrested following police pursuit in state's central northPolice from the Central North Police District have arrested two men following a pursuit which saw a vehicle crash into the Darling River on Saturday.

A man will appear in local court this week, after being arrested in related to a police pursuit in the Bourke shire over the weekend.


At about 8.15am on Saturday 18 June, officers attached to the Central North Police District attempted to pull over an alleged stolen Toyota Hilux utility travelling on Long Meadows Road at Bourke.


The vehicle failed to comply, and a pursuit commenced. The male driver of the vehicle drove the utility into the Darling River.



Two males were seen to exit the vehicle and swim to the opposite side of the river where they returned to land and began running way from the bank.


Officer’s commenced a search and at 9.30am located one of the men hiding in bushland.


The 25-year-old man was arrested and taken to Bourke Police Station.


Police established a crime scene and commenced a search for a second man at the scene that same day, putting out a description asking for aid from the local community, voicing concerns about his welfare due to the cold climate and wet conditions of the day.


The second man was located and arrested later that afternoon and will appear at Bourke Local Court on Thursday 23 June. Police have expressed their gratitude to the community for their assistance in their inquiries.
