UPDATE:
Officers from the Orana Mid-Western Police District have now revealed a body has been found in the remains of the burnt home in the Quambone township.
According to police, the body has not been formally identified. The occupant of the home, a man in his 70s remains unaccounted for.
A crime scene has now been established and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Fire crews have also launched inquiries into the incident.
EARLIER TODAY:
At around 11.30pm on Tuesday 2 November 2021 local Rural Fire Service crews were called to the Quambone residence on Tuka Tucka Street.
However, RFS District Officer Dez White said by the time crews arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames.
"It was not salvageable," Ms White said.
"As soon as we arrived, defensive firefighting operations were engaged - we were able to contain the fire to the building."
According to Ms White, the incident had a "multi-agency response" with three RFS vehicles, the group officer, herself, and responders from local police, paramedics and the energy authority all in attendance.
Coonamble Station Commander for NSW Fire and Rescue Andrew Morley said one of their trucks with four firefighters also travelled to the incident from Coonamble to support the RFS crews last night.
"We were just there to back them up but we thought they did a very good job to stop it from spreading any further," Mr Morley said.
The Fire and Rescue crew left the incident at around 2am this morning while RFS crews re-attended this morning to keep an eye on the building.
"It's mostly out now but it's still smouldering in places," Ms White said.
It has not been officially confirmed at this stage whether or not the occupant was inside the home at the time of the blaze. Ms White said an active investigation into the incident is still ongoing by all agencies involved.
