At today's Covid press conference, NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard had a blunt message for "disbelievers" who spread messages against vaccinations.
"The booster is showing itself to be one of the vital tools we have in the push back against the evil of this virus," Minister Hazzard said.
"I'll say this to the disbelievers that we still have in NSW - wake up to yourselves."
"The world is telling us this virus will keep killing us or putting us in hospital unless we get vaccinated."
"So to them I say forget your suspicions and forget your silly messages and let people just have their vaccines."
In the figures released for the Western NSW Local Health District (LHD) for the 24 hours up to 8pm on Saturday 15 January, the ongoing PCR testing across the western plains area revealed:
Narromine - 11
Coonamble - 9
Bogan - 6
Gilgandra - 6
Lachlan – 6 (all in Condobolin)
Warrumbungles - 5
Cobar - 2
Bourke - 1
Brewarrina - 1
Warren - 1
Walgett saw another day with no new recorded cases.
The total number of new cases for the Western LHD was 439, and totals in many communities remain high but it's likely there are more undiagnosed cases, especially as RAT result breakdowns are not available for specific areas.
There are 38 cases in the region in hospital with 2 in intensive care.
Premier Dominic Perrottet confirmed that PCR testing was open to those who cannot access a RAT, now that the turnaround times for PCR test results have improved.
"Turnaround times have improved markedly and should be two to three days at worst now that the queues have been alleviated substantially," Premier Perrottet said.
