The Walgett Shire Council now has access to the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) to support the Carinda storm clean up.
The town was devasted by a storm on 17 November, substantially damaging nine residential and four commercial properties.
"We know that this storm event had a significant impact on the Carinda community," Federal Minister for Emergency Management Jenny McAllister said.
DRFA is intended as a financial safety net for an emergency and will assist low-income, uninsured eligible residents to replace damaged essential household items or repair their house to a liveable standard. It will also help residents find accommodation, and support Council replace damaged public assets.
"It will support and complement the immediate recovery efforts that are currently rolling out on the ground," Ms McAllister said.
"The assistance being activated by both levels of government today will help the council clean up and repair critical assets as quickly as possible."

The disaster support comes from the federal and state governments.
"This is a great example of all levels of government working together to get support out to the community, providing vital assistance to help Carinda get back on its feet," MP Roy Butler said.
"The community has been hit hard by the storm and will need to recover."
A Recovery Assistance Point (RAP) will be open from 26 to 28 November 10am to 4pm at the Carinda Footy Ground from 10am to 4pm to access household and mental health support as well as legal and insurance advice.
Residents can also call a helpline for assistance with recovery on (02) 9212 9311 during business hours on weekdays and from 10am to 4pm on the weekends.
