Walgett not out of the woods with covidCases continue to pop up in communities like Walgett and Dubbo while Bathurst battles its biggest covid numbers to date.

This weekend there have been 18 new cases of covid reported across the Western Local Health District with 11 of those in Bathurst, 3 in Walgett, 3 in Dubbo and 1 in Orange. This brings the region's total to 1590 since the outbreak began.

Two people remain in hospital and while none are in intensive care at the moment there are still 92 people receiving treatment or being monitored at home or in other accommodation under the Covid Care in the Community program. Twenty five more people were discharged from that program today, making a total of 41 over the weekend.

Officials have advised that they will no longer be reporting on whether cases were infectious in the community.

"This is because of several changes including the easing of restrictions of movements in and between communities, and the increasing vaccination rate," a Health spokesperson said. "Continue to act as if active COVID-19 cases may be present in your community by following safety measures and responding to alerts."

This includes checking exposure sites and responding to calls for testing, especially if there has been a sewage detection in your area.

"We encourage people with no symptoms to be tested for COVID-19 surveillance," the spokesperson said.

"People having surveillance tests may not need to isolate."

For people in Walgett, testing is available at the MPS Ambulance Bay but hours may vary so you are encouraged to call and make an appointment on 6817 9400.

No new exposure sites have been listed for Walgett since 15 October but you can check all current exposure locations in NSW here.

Health officials also remind residents that high vaccination rates are essential to reduce the risk of transmission and protect our communities. For more information on vaccination visit this link.
