Walgett put on alert as person in the community tests positive for COVID-19 Walgett residents are being urged to come forward for testing if they display any signs of COVID-19 after a person believed to have been in the community since Monday 9 August returned a positive test earlier today.

Hours after enforcing a seven-day lockdown in Dubbo due to positive COVID-19 cases in the community, the Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) has announced a person currently in Walgett has also tested positive for the virus.


A WNSWLHD spokesperson said the person was tested on 7 August and returned a positive result today.


"They are considered to have potentially been infectious from 5 August - (they are) also known to have been in Dubbo and Bathurst during their infectious period," the spokesperson said.

 

"Investigations and contact tracing are underway."


According for Member for Barwon Roy Butler, the person - believed to be a local resident of Walgett - travelled home on Monday 9 August following their test and was informed of their positive result earlier today.

 

Following the announcement, anyone with COVID-19 symptoms in the Walgett community is being urged to come forward for testing.


Additional testing capacity in Walgett will be provided from tomorrow (Thursday 12 August) opening at 9am at Alex Trevallion Park, enter via Castlereagh Highway, exit to Pitt Street.

 

Additional testing capacity is already available in Dubbo at the Showground (enter via Wingewarra Street) and at the COVIDSafe clinic at the Manera Plaza, 77 Myall Street.

 

Additional testing capacity is now available at the Mount Panorama testing clinic in Bathurst following traces of COVID-19 being identified in the area's sewerage treatment plant on Monday 9 August.
