Communities in the north of the Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) remain under the COVID microscope, particularly the Walgett township and surrounding smaller communities.
Despite the spike in cases over the past week, many of which have been revealed to be under 10, Mr McLachlan said the rise hadn't been too alarming yet and the extent of the spread would become clearer in the coming days.
Up to 8pm last night, eight new cases of COVID-19 were identified across the WNSWLHD, half of which were from Walgett.
Other cases were from Wellington (two), Dubbo (one) and Orange (one). The cumulative total for the region is now 1524.
Four cases have been identified as being in the community while infectious, while only three are known to be linked to previously confirmed cases at this stage.
WNSWLHD Chief Executive Scott McLachlan said none of the new cases in Walgett were infectious but the chances of wider community transmission were still possible.
"While none of the new cases were infectious in the community, we do know that in the last week to 10 days, there have been quite a few cases infectious in the community," Mr McLachlan said.
NSW venues of concern continue to be updated, with new venues from Walgett, Orange, Dubbo and Wellington added in the last 24 hours.
The full list of venues of concern and information for close and casual contacts is available on the NSW Health Website.
Mr McLachlan said he was also still very concerned about the Lightning Ridge community which returned yet another positive sewerage detection from a sample taken on Monday 11 October.
"(This) is really concerning because that's over three weeks of positive results with no new cases found at this stage," he said.
"To everyone in the Lightning Ridge community please come forward to get tested, even if you don't have symptoms.
"Remember you won't have to isolate if you aren't symptomatic and haven't been in contact with someone with symptoms or is considered a close contact."
Questions also hang in the air for other communities up north, including Gulargambone and Brewarrina which have also recently returned positive detections.
Mr McLachlan said further tests would likely be taken today with results expected to come back by the weekend.
Patients in hospital have also dropped in the past 24 hours, with only six hospitalised across the WNSWLHD and one in intensive care and on ventilation.
Testing was around the same as yesterday with 2373 taken across the LHD in the past 24 hours.
Mr McLachlan said he was grateful to the Walgett community for coming out in impressive numbers since the local cluster was discovered.
"About 600 people have come forward to be tested this week, which is a really impressive rate to get on top of where COVID might be spreading in the local community," he said.
"There has also been a lot of support to have people stay at home over the last week to 10 days."
Testing is currently available across the LHD in various multi-purpose health services, although residents are advised to call them to book ahead.
A list of pop-up testing locations and times in current areas of concern can also be found here.
