Warren leads Western Plains in Christmas celebrationsThe Christmas display at Warren's community room marks the beginning of the town's Christmas events.

The Warren Shire is setting the standard to beat with the unveiling of their Christmas display this week.

After years off, Warren has made a dramatic entrance to the festive season, with a sweeping display of a community Christmas tree and Santa at their local Warren Community Room.

General Manager Gary Woodman said the display is an opportunity to bring some festive cheer to the town.

“We’ve had a challenging few years, from drought to Covid-19, so this Christmas display is a way to bring some joy to our residents, especially the children,” Mr Woodman said.

According to Warren Chamber of Commerce President Janet Ross, achieving their goal was no small feat, with elements being sourced from across the country to contribute.

“Logistically, it took a huge effort, with parts of the display coming from Tasmania, and the tree coming from Melbourne, via Sydney, to Warren with the help of Kevin Taylor from the Warren IGA,” said Ms Ross.

What became a display from Christmas spirit came together with a display of community spirit, local businesses and individuals offering their hand in bringing the scene together.

Local engineering, plumbing and electrical businesses joined forces, contributing staff, time, and resources, as well as the Warren Men’s Shed who built the picket fence surrounding the tree.

“I’m really proud that as a business community we have come together to create something tangible that embodies out community spirit,” says Ms Ross.

The Christmas display is only the beginning for the town, as locals are encouraged to create their own displays in and out the front of their homes.

“Our Christmas competition is now underway and we’re looking for the most Christmassy Street in Warren Shire to be named Santa Street,” Mr Woodman said.

Not stopping at that, the council distributed decorations to Warren businesses for display in their windows and will be hosting a Carols by Candlelight event on Saturday, December 18 at Macquarie Park.

Undoubtedly, Warren has set the pace for the entirety of the Western Plains, creating a community Christmas that seems hard to beat.

The Christmas Street competition for the town will be judged on Monday, December 20.
