The Warren shire is mourning the death of Councillor Ron Higgins, who died on Tuesday 16 January, 2024.

Cr Higgins was one of twelve current councillors in Warren, a position which he held since 2016, being elected to council three years after retiring.

Warren Shire Council Mayor Milton Quigly said that Mr Higgins would be missed throughout the community.

“On behalf of Warren Shire Council and our broader community, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to Cr. Higgins’ family, particularly his wife Helen and their three children Chris, Rebecca and Anthony, and thank him for his invaluable contribution to our Shire,” Mayor Quigley said.

“Ron was a reliable and popular member of our Council and our community.”

While Mr Higgins’ councillor career began in 2016, he began working for the local shire in 1987 as a mature age plumbing apprentice.

He continued working there for 25 years before retiring from paid work.

Since being elected, he served on several Council Committees including the Ewenmar Waste Depot Committee, Roads Committee, and Chairing the Water and Sewerage Committee.

“His knowledge and work in this area has been widely appreciated and respected,” Cr Milton said.

Councillor Higgins’ Funeral Service will be held at 10.30am today, Wednesday 31st January at the Warren Catholic Church.

Details have not yet been confirmed whether Warren will continue with a council of 11 people, given 2024 will see an election later in the year.
