Warren wetlands host ArtsongFrances Evans, who also organises the town choir, was one of the musicians at Warren's Artsong event.

The beauty of art and nature made the perfect backdrop for the sounds of music at the "Artsong" event held on Sunday, March 5 at Warren's Window on the Wetlands Centre (WOW).

The WOW Centre is a community-run education, recreation and cultural centre and the gateway to the wetlands of the region, including Tiger Bay Wetlands next door and the Macquarie Marshes/ Maliyanga ngurra, 120km north of Warren. The centre also hosts the Warren and Macquarie Marshes Visitor Information Centre.

Shona Whitfield, Manager of WOW said around 40 district residents came out to support this fundraising event, with money going toward the Warren Chamber Music Festival which will take place in May.

After an Acknowledgement of Country from Peter Mackay, music from Fiona Loader (piano), Nicholas Evans (clarinet), Frances Evans (violin) and the voice of Marienne Noonan filled the rafters of the historic church.

The church, located on the WOW site was relocated from the Warren township and is used for a variety of entertainment, social events and meetings, not to mention being home base to Riversmart, a not for profit group that focusses on promoting healthy rivers and wetlands.

Ms Whitfield said the event was a great example of a small community supporting each other.

"WOW is a real community location," she said. "We were happy to host Artsong and to be able to support the upcoming Festival which will have three concerts at various locations around Warren. Artsong was fantastic and a real credit to musicians and organisers."

An artwork exhibition was also launched on the night, with works from several local and regional artists. A percentage of sales will also go the upcoming music event.

As Artsong performer, Frances Evans said, "A perfect spot for the occasion, beautiful food, good gorgeous art, lovely music, incredible people. What else do you need?"
