Woman killed in crash south of Gilgandra A woman was killed in a fatal crash near Gilgandra yesterday.

A woman has died following a single-vehicle crash just south of Gilgandra yesterday, Tuesday 28 June.

 

Emergency services were called to a crash on the Newell Highway, about 10km south of Gilgandra towards Dubbo, at about 1pm yesterday afternoon.

 

Police believe the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree down an embankment.

 

The driver – an 80-year-old man – was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

 

The female passenger was freed from the vehicle and died a short time later. She is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged 78.

 

Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

 

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway and anyone who may have dashcam footage or information are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1900 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
