A record 35 motions are being voted on by NSW Country Women’s Association members at their state conference this week, 19-23 May.
The state conference continued in Wagga yesterday with hundreds of women from all over the state tackling some of the toughest topics in the bush.
Motions on increased feral pig control measures, greater penalties for biosecurity breaches and financial support for remote, rural and regional women forced to travel for fertility treatment have already been endorsed.
State President Dunedoo’s Joy Beames said community members from all over the state have embraced the lobbying power of the CWA.
“Advocacy has always been at the heart of our Association and that has certainly come to the fore this year.” State President, Joy Beames said.
The president said the CWA is now a major force and governments and politicians are listening.
‘’ Government ministers want to listen to our voice and they say we’re on the ground and our grass roots campaign are working for the bush.’’
She said the Feral Pig debate had unanimous 600 member support from delegates so did the endorsement of bigger penalties for Bio-Security breaches.
Ms Beames said getting more support for fertility treatment for women in rural areas was heart warming and emotional.
‘’We had some speakers of women who have had to travel long distances to get fertility treatment, and it has a major effect on them financially and mentally.
"Our members voted overwhelmingly to put pressure on state and Federal Government to help our communities.’’
The Dunedoo president says its been an honour to serve women and canvas for their families as she ends her 3 year term on Friday.
