The NSW Police Force suspects an unlawful goat depot is active in Brewarrina.

The Rural Crime Prevention team received reports of goats being transported to the property where they were maintained and later transported to another property without the necessary documentation.

Harvested Rangeland Goats (HRG) must be identified with National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) electronic devices prior to transportation and all movements must be recorded onto the NLIS database within two days.

The only exception is if the owner is accredited in the Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) HRG module and only to an abattoir or registered goat deport.

The exact number of goats being transported is still unknown as police continue their investigations.

Rural Crime Investigators are continuing to seek out information about the alleged unlawful goat depot.
