A 26 year-old man accused of murdering a 16 year-old in Narromine in April last year, appeared before NSW Supreme Court in his alleged murder trial on Friday 2 May.
Â
On Friday 26 April 2024, police were called to a home on Nymagee Street, Narromine following reports of a stabbing.
Â
A 16 year-old was found at the scene with stab wounds to his neck. He was treated by paramedics at the scene but sadly passed away before he could be air-lifted out.
Â
Then 26 year-old Anthony Facchi was arrested at a home nearby, before being taken to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with murder and remanded in custody.
Â
On Thursday 31 October 2024, he appeared before Dubbo Local Court audio-visual link (AVL) where his matter was heard by Magistrate Aaron Tang.
Â
He was charged with murder, assault occasioning bodily harm, and a weapons offence.
He described his incarceration as "bullshit" and has maintained his plea of innocence throughout the process.
Â
Because he pleaded not guilty, a trial is necessary to determine if he will be convicted of a crime.
Â
Last December it was revealed that Mr Facchi would have to self-represent before the NSW Supreme Court, after Legal Aid NSW withdrew from his court matter due to the difficulty they experienced working with him.
Â
Mr Facchi declined a call from his barrister the morning before his court appearance on Thursday 5 December 2024.
Â
He appeared via AVL at the NSW Supreme Court in front of Justice Mark Hamil in prison greens.
Â
It was his final hearing before his trial, which will occur in Dubbo Local Court on Monday 2 March 2026. The trial is expected to take approximately five to six weeks.
Â
The murder of a child under 18 years carries a standard non-parole period of 25 years and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
