It's been a whole month since polling day in the 2025 Federal Election and while the results in the Parkes electorate were set in stone soon after, it was only earlier today (Tuesday 3 June) that the results were finally declared by the Australian Electoral Commission.

At around 10am this morning Mr Jamie Chaffey was officially declared the new Member for Parliament for the division of Parkes in the House of Representatives.

The Parkes electorate spans 16 large local government areas plus part of the Dubbo Regional Council and the vast Unincorporated Far West Region of NSW.

It has been considered a safe seat for the National Party for decades and, while Chaffey maintained a strong majority with 39.96% of first preference votes, the Nationals saw a 9.02% swing to other candidates.

In the 2022 election, long serving Nationals MP Mark Coulton picked up 49.32% of the vote with a minor 1.44% swing against.

This year's trend was widespread, carrying across almost all polling places and types apart from postal voting where Chaffey claimed 47.16% of votes.

And it wasn't the Labor Party who were the major beneficiaries of the slight step back from the Nationals.

Pauline Hanson's One Nation candidate Mark Carter (a truckdriver from Parkes) and Shooters, Fishers and Farmers (SFF) Party's Stephen Pope (a frontline care worker and Gumbaynggirr man from Warren) both made clear gains.

One Nation picked up 13.65% of first preferences, a 5.93% swing, and SFF 6.46% on a swing of 4.36%.

Labor's Nathan Fell finished with just under half the total number of votes (20,630) compared to Chaffey's (41,912) while third runner Mark Carter caught 14,320 for One Nation.

One Nation's result saw them gaining ground on their 2022 results where they won just 7.48% of votes.

The SFF did not run a candidate in Parkes in 2022.

Chaffey now sits among the re-formed Coalition in a parliament where Labor have an overwhelming majority.

His learning curve is underway with added duties after being named in the Shadow Ministry as Shadow Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Shadow Assistant Minister for Resources.

"As the newly elected Member for Parkes, my duty will always be to serve the people of the Parkes electorate, and in this new role I will have a greater capacity to advocate on their behalf and hold the Labor Government accountable," Mr Chaffey said.

"Under the leadership of The National Party, we held all of our Lower House seats at the recent election.

"It is my belief that our values, and focus on regional Australia, combined with our strong policies, will give strength to our Coalition partners to enable a Coalition Government to come to power at the next election."
