Organizers have attributed the success of the 2022 Baradine Show to well-supported competitive events, range of displays and variety of entertainment.

The Baradine Pastoral, Agricultural & Horticultural Association (P.A & H) is delighted with the results of the event held on Saturday 19 March.

“The highlight was the quality and quantity of competition entries in all categories and the positive feedback on the improvements and upgrades that have been carried out to the showground over the past year,” said P.A & H president, Lauren Harris. “Our committee volunteers work tirelessly for months beforehand so the event can take place.

“With children and families being our focus, it's a unique opportunity for people to come together at the show. Covid regulations have been hard on everyone and we just wanted to bring the best show possible to the community.

“It was great to see it all come together; everything went better than planned.”

Baradine P.A & H patron, John King officially declared the 2022 Baradine Show open congratulating the show committee for their work in putting the event together.

“The showgrounds really are a point of pride for Baradine,” Mr King said. “It is a great privilege to be a member of this dedicated team of volunteers.

“I would like to congratulate Erin Tym for being chosen as the Baradine Show Young Woman for 2022 and to Rachael Evans as runner-up.”

The 2022 Baradine Show was officially opened by Baradine P.A & H Association patron, John King with Lauren Harris (president), Erin Tym (2022 Young Woman), Imogen Bunner (2021 Baradine Show Young Woman) and Rachael Evans (2022 runner-up).

Wool judge, Luke Fitzgerald commented on the high standard of fleece entries.

“All the fleeces were of an excellent quality, which is a reflection of the very good season the district has had over the past twelve months,” Mr Fitzgerald said. “It is excellent to see so many great entries in this year’s show.

“Everyone is in a rebuilding phase after the drought. We have now had two good seasons and let’s hope we can have a couple more run together so growers can continue to build up their sheep and cattle numbers.”

Local stock breeder and judge, Bruce McConnaughty says he was pleased with the number of entries in the cattle section.

Quality

“It was a great turn out; the quality of entrants was excellent and most of them will be able to go on to the Sydney Royal Easter Show,” Mr McConnaughty said. “It has been a great season; the animals are all in good condition and it is nice to see fat cattle.”

Gunnedah sheep judge, Dominic Shortis added his positive comments on the quality of the stock being exhibited.

“We had a really good run of sheep; two-tooths through to open class,” Mr Shortis said. “We had pens of three commercial sheep brought in by local growers, which were very good quality. The wools on them were very good and the sheep were well covered and in good condition with the way the season is.

“We then moved into the individual classes. The quality of the two-tooth and four-tooth ewes was very good. The wool was well grown, well nourished, with good crimp and definition. Then we went into the two-tooth and four-tooth Merino rams, which were also of very good quality from local studs and showing some very good genetics and growth for age.

“There was a great roll-up and it is great to see everyone pitching in for their local community. The local show is the heart of the community and it is good to see so many people, especially the young ones, come along.”
