Beryl glides in as Narromine's Citizen of the YearInstrumental in bringing the World Gliding Championships to Narromine, Beryl Hartley was announced as the shire's Citizen of the Year.

An involvement in recreational gliding since 1965, years of volunteer work and organising the World Gliding Championships at Narromine, has led to Beryl Hartley being named as Narromine's Citizen of the Year Award at the Shire's Australia Day presentations.

It came as a surprise to Ms Hartley who attended the ceremony to accept the Community Event of the Year for the 2023 World Gliding Championships.

"I was waiting to accept that one and then I got named a Citizen of the Year, it was a lovely surprise," she said.

Narromine Shire said Mrs Hartley's unparallelled dedication to the Shire through gliding is commendable, playing a pivotal role in securing and successfully organising the World Gliding Championships for Narromine in 2015 and 2023. Additionally, she is an active member of Narromine 25 Club and serves as the Treasurer of the Narromine Aviation Museum, which she describes as "her other great love".

Mrs Hartley has also been recognised with the Bill Iggulden Award by the Gliding Federation of Australia for services to gliding in general.
