Police say they've found the body of a man reported missing from Lightning Ridge .

Officers had been notified on April 5 of the disappearance of 68-year-old Rexford Layton (Foxy) Wood and put a call out for information the day after.

Also known as Foxy, police said he had last been seen at a Lightning Ridge hotel on Friday 29 March.

 However, in an evening press release on Saturday 6 April police said they had located what they believed to be Foxy's body.

"Following extensive inquiries, a geo-tracing alert and a multi-agency search with the assistance of local SES personnel, just after 12pm today (Saturday 6 April 2024), searchers located the body of a man," a police spokesperson said.

"Whilst the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the 68-year-old man.

"A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner."
