Students from Brewarrina Central School have wrapped up their first experience into what life is like in the workforce.
This follows a two-week work experience stint in November hosted by Brewarrina Shire Council.
Held during the last two weeks of November, the program highlighted a range of career opportunities within Council. Year nine and ten students worked in a variety of departments, including Council's mechanical workshop, parks and gardens, engineering, maintenance, youth centre, and finance.

Brewarrina Shire Council General Manager David Kirby said he was elated to hear the positive feedback from both students, Council and the school, and looked forward to welcoming the students back again.
“This program has been a great opportunity for the students to see what Council does, and what opportunities there may be once they complete their schooling. Their enthusiasm and curiosity has been really encouraging, and we hope this experience motivates them to consider future roles within Council or other local organisations,” said Mr Kirby.

“This initiative was made possible through the efforts of Kath Hertslet from Brewarrina Central School, who worked closely with Council to organise the program. The support of Clontarf, led by Uncle Charlie, and NASCA's Ehren, who assisted with transport, and ensured the success of the program.
“Special thanks must also go to all those who helped with the early morning pickups making sure students got to work on time and could participate fully in the program,” added Mr Kirby.
After the success of the initiative last month, Brewarrina Shire Council is planning to expand the program further in the New Year, with traineeships, apprenticeships and mock interview workshops in the works.
“These initiatives, developed in collaboration with our local schools, will help students build skills, gain real world experience, and better prepare them for meaningful careers within their communities.
