Homegrown Coonamble horse trainer Damien Lane is excited for what the 2026 new year brings his mare Canamble's recent win in Scone.

After Canamble galloped across Scone Racecourse track's the finish line in first place 11 December with "rare" odds, the trainer says she will now go against higher graded racehorses.

The mare has won three races, crossing the finish line first in Dubbo, Coonamble and now Scone.

She placed first in the Class 3 Benchmark 66 Handicap (1000m) race.

Trainer Damien Lane says he was surprised to see her cross the finish line in first place after having odds of $61 to $1.

"You don't get many at $61 to $1 like that one, that's a bit rare," he says.

"She's come through that win really good."

Now, Canamble will be put against higher graded racehorses.

"It'll definitely be a tougher race than what she went around in the other day.

"She'll be competitive wherever she goes."

He says Canamble will take to the track again on Friday 9 January in Gosford or Monday 12 January in Dubbo.

Mr Lane currently trains 25 horses, and although he now resides in the Central Coast, Mr Lane's heart still beats for his regional hometown, Coonamble.

"We bought the Philly as a yearling and I named her Canamble after my old hometown."

He plans to take her back to Coonamble for the 2026 Gold Cup Races.
