Transport for NSW has issued two alerts for changed traffic conditions for routes near Gilgandra and Narromine for work related to the Inland Rail project.

The work is expected to last for around ten days starting from Monday 16 January.

A spokesperson for Transport NSW says the geotechnical work taking place along Tomingley Road south of Narromine, and along the Castlereagh Highway north of Gilgandra is for early investigations in relation to crossing points for the Inland Rail Project.

They form part of a joint project between Transport for NSW and the Australian Government to provide road bridges at these locations.

Geotechnical Investigations are an integral part of road works, assisting engineers to understand the ground conditions of a site and to best design and build for the specific project.

These investigations also detect and monitor risks to the environment and potential harm to humans throughout the lifecycle of the Inland Rail project.

The results will also assist with project budgeting, facilitate efficient design and act as a prewarning system to engineers of any risks that may occur.

Castlereagh Highway north of Gilgandra

All motorists are advised to be aware of changed traffic conditions on the Castlereagh Highway approximately twenty-two kilometres north of Gilgandra at Curban.

The geotechnical works at this site will take place between 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, weather permitting and are expected to take 10 days.

Reduced speed limits of 40km/h, traffic control and lane closures will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.

With increased traffic on local roads due to school holidays, motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
