A Coonamble teenager will face children's court today (Tuesday 17 May), charged with stealing the personal vehicle and belongings of a local resident last week.
Between 11pm on Monday (9 May) and 12.30am on Tuesday (10 May), unknown persons forced entry into a home in Coonamble after turning the power off, and stole bank cards and a Hyundai station wagon.
It is understood by the Western Plains App the elderly occupant of the residence was at home at the time, however was not aware of the theft of the vehicle or bank cards until the following morning.
Curiously, the power had been switched back on again when the thieves had left the premises.
Posts on social media claim the stolen vehicle was then taken to Dubbo on Tuesday morning and was seen in a drive through of a fast food restaurant using the stolen cards.
After the incident was reported to police, officers attached to the Orana Mid-Western Police District commenced an investigation.
Following inquiries, officers later arrested a 14-year-old boy at a home in Coonamble, about 9.05am on Thursday 12 May.
He was taken to Coonamble Police Station and charged with Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and Dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.
The boy was then given conditional bail to appear before a children’s court today.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
