Crash closes Mitchell Highway near Queensland borderA B-double crash has closed the Mitchell Highway near Barringun

The Mitchell Highway has been closed following a heaving vehicle accident near the Queensland border in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 8 February).

A woman has been treated for fractures after the B-double tanker she was driving crashed about 1.40am today at Barringun near Lanihuli Road just south of the Queensland border, closing the Mitchell Highway.

The woman was treated at the scene before being transported by road ambulance to Bourke airport where she will be met by a team from Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Officers from Central North Police District attended the scene and advise the highway could be closed until midday.

The tanker was carrying milk when it crashed and tanks have ruptured.

The Transport Management Centre advises northbound motorists should divert from Bourke via Kamilaroi Highway and Castlereagh Highway to Queensland.

The southbound diversion is the same in reverse. This diversion will add about five hours extra travel time.
