Two fires are now burning along the stretch between Girilambone to Byrock with firefighters battling to regain control.
A fire that took hold on Saturday 4 March on Booramugga Road near the Mitchell Highway at Girilambone was out of control and had burnt out more than a thousand hectares by Monday evening.
A Watch & Act alert was issued for local residents at around 7pm on Monday.
The fire had crossed the Mitchell Highway, burning in an easterly direction. A major electricity transmission line has also been impacted, with extended power outages in the areas around Bourke to the north of the blaze.
The fire was just five kilometres from an earlier blaze that kept crews busy for several days just two weeks ago.
"The fire started on Saturday afternoon by someone using equipment in a paddock," said North West Zone Rural Fire Service Manager David Nicholson.
"It took a run to the east and we held it within containment lines until a bad westerly wind came through yesterday."

The blaze breached containment lines and jumped the Mitchell Highway a few kilometres north of Girilambone.
Around a dozen fire crews from around the Bogan Shire, Warren, Coonamble and Walgett shires are currently working at the site.
"I left the fireground at around 8am today (Tuesday 7 March) and it was under control but we're expecting more winds today so that could present a challenge," Mr Nicholson said.

The second fire is burning north of Coolabah east of the highway.
"It is in the Brewarrina local government area about thirty kilometres north of Coolabah," Mr Nicholson said.
"We're not sure how it starte, potentially from lightning strike yesterday."
"It took a run to the east and crews from the Far West District and Coolabah brigades are working on that fire with dozers and graders," he said. "We've got planes also working on both fires."
"We have declared a Section 44, which is an emergency," Mr Nicholson said. "This will allow us to pull in more resources from elsewhere in the state both to fire control and on the fireground."

Other fires on the Urawilkie Road north east of Coonamble and at Cable Downs Station, Mulya Road, north west of Cobar were brought under control yesterday (Monday 6 March) but are being closely monitored.
