"Everybody deserves soap and a toothbrush" - charity founder is Walgett's Australia Day ambassadorCharity founder, Katryna Robinson, is Walgett's Australia Day ambassador.

Gray Park is the place to be in Walgett on Australia Day where festivities kick off with a free breakfast at 8am.

Walgett Shire Mayor Jasen Ramien said it's well worth coming along to be a part of the award presentations for nominated local people and groups, as well as hearing from Australia Day Ambassador Katryna Robinson.

"We're excited to have Katryna as the Walgett ambassador," Mr Ramien said. "She runs a charity and is very inspirational. I'm looking forward to hearing her story."

Founder of charity Every Little Bit Helps', Ms Robinson believes every Australian should have regular access to a toothbrush and a bar of soap. Through her foundation, she is dedicated to assisting homeless individuals throughout Australia.

Humble roots

Armed with a basket of toiletries collected by her husband on work trips, in July 2014 Katryna Robinson visited a homeless community under the Sydney Harbour Bridge, finding more than 20 men and women that gratefully accepted the toiletries.

From this small basket of products, 'Every Little Bit Helps' has grown to an organisation that has collected and redistributed over 1.35 million products to the homeless in almost 70,000 care packs. These have been welcomed by victims of domestic violence, asylum seekers and at risk youth. These products are donated by airlines, hotels, and individuals that travel regularly.

Professionally, Katryna is an IT Recruiter with 20+ years experience and runs her own business. Katryna was born and educated in the NSW Southern Highlands and has been living at Sydney’s Northern Beaches for the last 16 years with her husband and daughter.

The catalyst for establishing 'Every Little Bit Helps' was learning that while there are many facilities providing laundry and shower facilities, most are able to supply little more than running water and previously did not have regular and reliable access to basic toiletry products.

Mr Ramien said Ms Robinson's story was amazing.

"She has done a lot for those less fortunate and should be celebrated for that," he said
