Gulargambone residents went without power for over an hour on Friday afternoon (20 February) following a fire near the local hospital and caravan park.

Power was cut at 1:30pm for almost 470 customers, while local Rural Fire Service brigades attended and at least one Rural Fire Service truck from Coonamble was spotted heading towards the scene under lights and sirens.

Western NSW Local Health District said just before 3pm that the nearby Gulargambone Multi-Purpose Service had not needed to evacuate.

One witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said there was a number of civilian cars down Bourbah Street with locals trying to catch a look.

"I went for a drive and couldn't get anywhere near it.

"I'm just getting a bit hot here. No fans, air con.

"The whole town's just covered in smoke."

An update at 2:24pm from the Rural Fire Service said the bush fire was still being controlled.

The resident reported at around 2:45pm that power had returned.

Essential Energy has also removed an alert from their online outage map for most of the town, although two customers were still affected as at 3:30pm.
