"Getaway" returns to Walgett and Lightning RidgeThe last time the Getaway team visited the Western Plains, it was raining.

Australia's longest running TV travel program has headed our way.

Catriona Rowntree and the Getaway crew landed in Moree on Monday, with plans to film in Walgett and Lightning Ridge this week. Ms Rowntree has family in the Walgett area which makes the journey even more enjoyable.

During her time on the travel program, "Getaway," Ms Rowntree has travelled to over 65 countries, sharing her experiences and adventures with viewers. She is a well-loved figure in the Australian media landscape, known for her infectious energy and enthusiastic explanations of countless travel destinations.

"I can’t wait to bring the Getaway crew to Walgett, Lightning Ridge and Moree and show the world how wonderful our Australian outback towns are," Ms Rowntree said.

Last time she visited Walgett, in January 2020, it was raining.

"I’m the luckiest person I know (I tell myself this ALL the time and hope it comes true) so when I turned up to my cousin's property, where they don’t think it’s rained since I was here two years ago and lost my shoe in the mud. Well lo and behold it’s pouring! My cousin Cam told me ‘well, they say if you stick to this country through the dry, it’ll bloody well stick to you in the wet, you could lose a shoe.’ Stuff the shoes, I’m dancing barefoot till dawn."

As we all know now, the rains did not stop coming for quite a while!

Among other things, on this trip, the Getaway crew plan to visit Lightning Ridge Opal Mine and Sculpture Tours, visit the John Murray Art Gallery and a farm stay at Carinya Station while visiting shops along the way

"Come out and say hi," Ms Rowntree said. "Fly that flag country people, let’s show ‘em what your made of. There’s so much joy to be found out in this big sky country and I’m so excited to make good on my promise, to return with a camera crew. Are you ready for your close up? See you there."

Anyone wanting to see the Getaway crew should head out and about on Tuesday and Wednesday when they will be filming around Walgett and Lightning Ridge.
