A police officer has been charged over an alleged assault of two boys on a bus between Walgett and Coolah.

Police say the off-duty officer – an inspector attached to Western Region – is alleged to have assaulted the two 11-year-old boys on Saturday 22 June 2024.

"Following an investigation, the officer was today (Friday 6 September 2024) issued a future court attendance notice for two counts of common assault," a police spokesperson said.

"The officer is currently suspended with pay."

He is due to appear at Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday 23 October 2024.
