Coonamble's historic Plaza Theatre will soon be opening its doors to a show the likes of which have never before been seen within its walls.
"Life Drawing with a Comedian" is a show that combines the traditional art of life drawing with the comedic element of live performance.
One comedian acts as the host, guiding the audience through life drawing exercises and providing humorous commentary, while another comedian is the model for the audience to draw, posing in various positions and styles.
The Coonamble 'class' is the first in a series of appearances across the western plains which includes Warren, Nyngan, Cobar, Bourke, Brewarrina and Lightning Ridge.
Sean Michaels, a multi-talented media personality with an impressive track record in the entertainment industry is travelling with the show.
"The concept was invented by Aussie comedians during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival four years ago," he said. "We were doing all sorts of experimental shows and wanted to do something different and people loved it.
"It's just turned into a classic, there's a lot of improvisation and interaction with the audience.
"Some people just like to sit in a corner and draw and giggle, while others get very involved. "It's just a really positive thing," he said.
Life Drawing with a Comedian has now been performed almost 300 times, but Sean says "every show is fresh, every show is new."
"I'm an ‘improv’ comedian, I couldn't do it the same way twice even if I wanted to."
In fact, the door to Sean's career as an entertainer opened when he was thrown into the Class Clowns comedy competition in Tamworth as a 17 year old.
"I'm technically from Lake Keepit," says Sean. "I went through primary school at Somerton where there were 20 kids in the whole school.
"Then I did the one and a half hour bus ride every day in to high school in Tamworth for a few years before the whole family moved in there. We were closer to school and dad travelled out to work every day."
After winning the Tamworth competition with his improv, Sean progressed to Sydney and rolled into a varied career in the entertainment industry.
"I was a radio producer for seven years, an MTV correspondent for a while, I've written for TV shows and been an extra in about a hundred movies," he said.
He has amassed an impressive online following, with his videos receiving more than 12 million views and tours the globe as a stand-up comedian.
Sean has been recognised with numerous awards and nominations for his outstanding contributions to his industry.
To prove a life drawing show can run anywhere, the venues for this tour range from Warren Museum & Gallery, Nyngan RSL Club, the Pink Galah Art Studio in Cobar, Bourke Shire Council, Muddy Waters Cafe in Brewarrina and Lighting Ridge Bowling Club.
And Sean's not bothered about the heat.
"I'm loving these rural tours and I'd do them forever if I could," he said. "When it's hot it's more interesting, you can draw the beads of sweat, but if it's too cold there's less to draw."
No experience is required to attend the class, but participants are encouraged to bring along drawing materials if they have them.
"It's an absolute beginners class, you can draw stick figures with crayons if you like or you can bring your own charcoal and easel, the talent is everywhere in between.
"There will be materials available so there's no need to raid the kids' arts and craft box."
"There are usually two types of people who come," he said. "You've got the young, enthusiastic girls who are into creativity or culture and willing to give something new and different a go - and then we have their boyfriends and husbands!"
Life Drawing with a Comedian is on this Sunday 3 March at the Plaza Theatre from 4pm.
"It's really quite an interesting show, people leave happy.
"Just bring a parent if you're under 15."
