Man arrested after evading police in Bourke

The driver of an unroadworthy light truck has been charged following a police pursuit in Bourke last week.

The man faced court today on a number of traffic offences after leading police on a chase in the Bourke township on Friday 17 May.

Officers from Central North Police District attempted to stop a light rigid truck on Parkdale Road, Bourke, just after 11pm on Friday after observing that the vehicle had no registration plates.

When the truck failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

A short time later police deployed road spikes and it came to a stop on the levee bank near the Mitchell Highway.

The driver fled on foot and was arrested a short time later and taken to Bourke Police Station.

The 29-year-old man was charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed, police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, and use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road.

He was refused bail and appeared at Dubbo Local Court via Audio Visual Link (AVL) on Saturday 18 May, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at Bourke Local Court today, Monday 20 May 2024.
